The Academy Award winning American actress Dorothy Faye Dunaway popularly known as Faye Dunaway was born on the 14th January, 1941. Dunaway beautifully exhibited her acting potential in a number of films ranging from blockbusters to cult classics like The Towering Inferno, and Mommie Dearest. She also featured in many critically acclaimed films like Bonnie and Clyde , Chinatown & Network.
Faye Dunaway is a Roman Catholic who was born in Bascom, Florida to homemaker Grace April and army officer John Mac Dowell Dunaway, Jr. Faye attended Florida State University and Boston University before graduating in theater from the University of Florida. After completing her education Faye joined the American National Theater and Academy in the year 1962.
In 1962, Faye Dunaway appeared in the role of Thomas More’s daughter in the commercially successful drama A Man for All Seasons performed on Broadway. In 1967, Dunaway bagged her first role as an actress in the film “The Happening ". The same year she also performed in Hurry Sundown, however her most significant performance came in the lead female role opposite Warren Beatty in the movie Bonnie and Clyde. Her role as Bonnie Parker was applauded bringing her an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role. In the subsequent year Dunaway was cast with Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair, a caper film.
During the decade of the 70,s Faye Dunaway’s popularity had soared manifold, evident from the long list of movies against her name, a few memorable ones are Three Days of the Condor, Chinatown, The Three/Four Musketeers, Little Big Man and Eyes of Laura Mars. One of the best Faye Dunaway performences came while depicting the character of Diana Christensen in the 1976 movie Networks. The role brought her an Academy Award in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role.
In the next decade Dunaway’s career as the leading lady started moving southwards after the release of the movie Mommie Dearest in 1981. Faye Dunaway always associated the poor commercial and critical success of Mommie Dearest to her declining career; however, the movie in later years became a cult classic. It was also stated that the rise of Meryl Streep as a dramatic cinema queen added to the declining career of Faye Dunaway. Faye Dunaway performed the role of an alcoholic opposite Mickey Rourke in the movie Barfly. In the 1995 movie Don Juan DeMarco, she co-starred with Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp.
In 1996, Faye toured U.S. with the well received one-lady stage play titled "Master Class” the powerful play depicted the life of opera singer Maria Callas. In 1994, Faye received an Emmy Award for her role as a murderer in the episode "It's All in the Game," of the long-running suspense series Columbo. Besides three Oscar nominations and one Oscar, Faye Dunaway has also received Golden Globe nominations ten times during her career, she managed to bag it three times for her television films Ellis Island in 1984, Gia in 1998 and the movie Networks. On the 2nd October, 1996, Dunaway was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard.
Faye was romantically linked with comedian Lenny Bruce, actor Marcello Mastroianni and to many more people but she eventually married Peter Wolf, the leading singer of the J. Geils Band rock group in 1974. However, the marriage did not succeed and the couple separated in 1979. In 1984, Faye married the British photographer Terry O’Neill, this time the marriage lasted for three years. The couple had one child, Liam O'Neill, born in 1980. However, her second ex-husband O'Neill revealed in 2003 that their child was not their biological son but adopted; Faye had dismissed the fact for a long time.
Faye Dunaway appeared as a judge in the 2005 reality show The Starlet which aimed at finding a young actress having the potential to be a super star in near future. In 2006, Faye played the character of Lois O'Neill in the famous crime drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 2007, Dunaway’s direct-to-DVD film Rain, based on the V. C. Andrews’ novel, was released.
